Canada's Dabrowski and Fernandez advance to the third round of the US Open women's doubles with their partners.

With their victories on Saturday, two Canadians advanced to the third round of the US Open women's doubles.

Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand, as well as Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Que.,

Taylor Townsend of the United States, won their second-round matches.

Fernandez and Townsend defeated Aliona Bolsova and Rebeka Masarova of Spain in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

The 16th seeds Dabrowski and Routliffe required three sets to upset China's Zhu Lin and Taiwan's Wu Fang-hsien 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

In the third round, Fernandez and Townsend will face Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic and Donna Vekic of Croatia.

The Czech team of Barbora Strycova and Marketa Vondrousova will be Dabrowski and Routliffe's next opponents.

Dabrowski, 31, reached the U.S. Open women's doubles semifinals in 2021 with Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani, who withdrew with a season-ending knee injury during that match.

Dabrowski and Routliffe are in their fourth tournament together.

Their collaboration started in August at the National Bank Open in Montreal.
