Kevin Costner Throughout His Career! 34 Dreamy Throwback Photos of 'Yellowstone's Lead Actor

Kevin Costner had already appeared in several career-defining films by 1987, including Silverado, The Untouchables,

and No Way Out. He was a celebrity by all accounts. But he claimed on the contrary. "I'm not a Hollywood star." "I'm an actor,"

he explained to the Los Angeles Times. "Talk to Sean Connery, Robert De Niro, or Gene Hackman if you want to see a movie star."

Costner would continue to live by that motto throughout his four-decade career, choosing roles in films and TV shows that began with a fantastic story.

(Think Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, JFK, Tin Cup, Dances With Wolves, Hidden Figures, The Upside of Anger, Yellowstone, and on and on.)

He even co-founded the app HearHere, which provides stories about the places users visit while traveling there.

"I love stories," he says on the app's website. "I'm the guy who stops at historical markers along the highway, usually eliciting moans from the rest of the passengers."

Costner has won two Oscars, two Golden Globes, and an Emmy for his work as an actor, director, and producer.

Throughout his varied career in Hollywood, he has paid respect to the wild frontier in numerous Westerns such as Wyatt Earp, Dances With Wolves, Open Range,

and Yellowstone. Even as a singer/songwriter, he explores the West with his country-rock band, Modern West.Costner has been a fan of Westerns since he was a child.
